Wizkid, the Grammy-winning Nigerian music superstar, is set to have his life and career immortalized in a new documentary titled Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, which will premiere at the prestigious 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City this June. The film will be featured in the festival’s Spotlight+ category, known for showcasing groundbreaking documentaries paired with live events and conversations.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Karam Gill and produced alongside Daniel Malikyar, the documentary traces Wizkid’s remarkable journey from the streets of Lagos to becoming a global icon who has reshaped the perception of African music worldwide. The 83-minute film offers an intimate look at his rise, blending exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, live performances, and personal moments that reveal the artist’s creative evolution and cultural impact.
The documentary features interviews with key figures close to Wizkid, including Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti, his long-time manager and partner Jada Pollock, manager Sunday Are, British media personality Julie Adenuga, music executive Seni Saraki, stylist Matthew Temitope, and A&R executive Solomon Karen. Their insights help paint a vivid portrait of Wizkid’s influence on the global music scene and his role in elevating Afrobeats as a major cultural force.
Long Live Lagos will be screened on June 6, 7, and 11 during the festival, followed by a live discussion with Wizkid and director Karam Gill, providing audiences with deeper insight into the artist’s journey and legacy.
