Yoruba Youth Group Urges Southwest Governors to Arm Amotekun with Sophisticated Weapons

The Yoruba Youth Socio-Cultural Association (YYSA) has called on Southwest governors to follow the example of Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo by equipping Amotekun officers with AK47s and other advanced weapons to effectively combat rising insecurity in the region.

In a statement on Tuesday, YYSA National President Olalekan Hammed highlighted the alarming increase in kidnappings and killings, particularly in Ondo and Ekiti states, where farmers and innocent citizens have been targeted. He stressed that the lack of modern weaponry is a major obstacle hindering Amotekun’s ability to tackle criminal elements terrorizing Southwest Nigeria.

Hammed urged the governors to provide the necessary arms and equipment to ensure Amotekun can operate fully and protect the people, emphasizing that the security outfit’s effectiveness depends on access to sophisticated weapons similar to those supplied in Kogi State.

The group’s appeal underscores growing concerns over regional security and the urgent need to strengthen local law enforcement capabilities to curb violence and restore peace.
