London Conference Secures Millions in Aid for Sudan Amid Worsening Humanitarian Crisis

Diplomats and aid officials from around the world gathered in London on April 15, 2025, for a high-level conference addressing Sudan's devastating two-year conflict. Co-hosted by the UK, EU, France, Germany, and the African Union, the event aimed to mobilize international support for what the United Nations calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

The European Union and its member states pledged €522 million in aid for 2025, with €282 million allocated specifically for Sudan. The funding will provide essential health care, food assistance, water and sanitation, shelter, and education to vulnerable populations, including refugees and displaced families. The UK also announced £120 million in new humanitarian aid to support over 650,000 Sudanese people affected by violence.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized the urgency of action: “The brutal war in Sudan has devastated millions of lives. We must act now to prevent an all-out catastrophe.” Lammy highlighted the need for improved humanitarian access and long-term solutions to end the conflict.

Sudan’s war began on April 15, 2023, following clashes between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Over 14 million people have been displaced, with more than 3 million fleeing to neighboring countries. Famine threatens nearly 25 million people half of Sudan’s population and 80% of hospitals in conflict zones are non-operational.

The conference underscored international efforts to alleviate suffering while urging parties to ensure unhindered access for humanitarian aid. Participants called for unified negotiations under African Union leadership to de-escalate violence and protect civilians.

This event marks a critical step toward addressing Sudan’s humanitarian catastrophe and restoring hope for millions of affected citizens.
