The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has prohibited Nigerian radio and television stations from airing Eedris Abdulkareem's new song, "Tell Your Papa," citing its "objectionable nature."
The ban was announced in a memo dated April 9, 2025, signed by Susan Obi, the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring. The song violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which prohibits content deemed inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of public decency from being aired on Nigerian broadcast platforms.
"Tell Your Papa" was released on April 6 and gained traction on social media. It criticizes President Bola Tinubu's government, specifically addressing his son Seyi Tinubu. The lyrics highlight the socio-economic hardships faced by Nigerians, urging Seyi to convey these issues to his father.

This is not the first time Abdulkareem has faced backlash; his 2002 song "Jaga Jaga" was also banned for its critical portrayal of Nigeria's state.
The NBC's decision reflects ongoing tensions between artists and government authorities over freedom of expression in Nigeria.
Despite the ban, the song remains popular online, sparking debates about censorship and political critique in the country.
