"Spiritual Solution" is Needed to Surmount Insecurity in Nigeria - Chief of Naval Staff

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emeka Ihedioha, has emphasized the importance of incorporating spiritual approaches alongside military efforts to effectively tackle the rising insecurity challenges in Nigeria.

Speaking at a recent security summit in Abuja, Vice Admiral Ihedioha stated that while conventional security measures remain critical, addressing the root causes of violence and unrest requires a holistic strategy that includes spiritual and moral renewal. He noted that many of the nation’s security problems are deeply intertwined with societal decay, loss of values, and spiritual neglect.

“Military might alone cannot solve the complex security issues we face. There is a need for spiritual solutions that restore hope, discipline, and unity among our people,” the CNS remarked. He urged religious leaders and communities across Nigeria to play proactive roles in fostering peace and reconciliation.

Vice Admiral Ihedioha also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to strengthen intelligence, enhance maritime security, and collaborate with other security agencies to curb criminal activities such as piracy, kidnapping, and smuggling.

The naval chief’s call for spiritual engagement reflects a growing recognition among security stakeholders that sustainable peace in Nigeria depends not only on force but also on addressing the moral and ethical foundations of society.

He concluded by appealing to all Nigerians to embrace values of honesty, patience, and mutual respect as essential components in the fight against insecurity.
