An Anambra-based human rights activist and convener of the Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi, has launched a grassroots campaign to mobilise tricycle (Keke) drivers in support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s re-election bid in the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election.
Comrade Obi, though not a Keke driver himself, directed all tricycle operators across the state to obtain voter’s cards to ensure they can vote for Soludo. He explained that his motivation stems from Soludo’s intervention in stopping illegal levies and extortion previously imposed on Keke drivers by touts and non-operators. Before Soludo’s reforms, Keke drivers were reportedly forced to pay over ₦30,000 monthly in unaccounted levies, compared to the current official government levy of ₦8,000.
Obi, who coordinates the Anambra State Keke Drivers Forum (AKDF), noted that there are over 15,000 Keke drivers in the state. He expressed optimism that their collective support would be pivotal for Soludo’s re-election.
During a press conference with Keke driver coordinators from Awka, Ekwulobia, Onitsha, and Ogbaru, Obi unveiled campaign stickers reading “Soludo is the best; we must return him to complete the job.” He instructed all Keke drivers to display the stickers on their vehicles to show support for the governor. The stickers will be officially launched as campaign materials once INEC gives the green light for election campaigns.
Leaders of the Keke drivers, including Ifeanyi Okafor, Ugochukwu Adiele, and Emmanuel Yahaya, praised Soludo’s achievements since taking office and affirmed that he deserves another term.
