A prominent group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the APC League, has called for the immediate expulsion of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia over what it describes as “gross misconduct and anti-party activities.”
In a statement signed by its national president, John Ogiri, the group accused Governor Alia of systematically undermining the unity and cohesion of the APC in Benue State. The group cited several grievances, including:
- Absence from Key Party Events: Governor Alia’s conspicuous absence from the recent APC National Summit at the State House where President Bola Tinubu was endorsed for the 2027 presidential election was highlighted as evidence of his disconnection from the party’s national leadership.
- Marginalizing Party Structure: The governor was accused of sidelining the APC State Executive Committee, refusing to convene meetings, and excluding elected representatives from key decisions.
- Alleged Secret Alliances: The group alleged that Governor Alia has been collaborating with Senator Gabriel Suswam and other figures opposed to APC interests, as well as showing signs of alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), raising suspicions of a planned defection ahead of the 2027 general elections.
- Ignoring Reconciliation Efforts: The APC League claimed that Alia has repeatedly ignored reconciliation mechanisms initiated by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to resolve internal disputes in Benue State.
The group stressed that Governor Alia’s continued ambiguity and alleged disloyalty are “corrosive to the spirit of unity within the APC” and pose a threat to the party’s credibility and long-term viability in the state.
They urged the APC’s National Working Committee to take swift disciplinary action, including expulsion, to defend the party’s integrity and send a clear message that anti-party activities will not be tolerated.
