A young Nigerian graduate, Mathias Yogboh, popularly known as Jagaban, was reportedly killed by suspected Fulani militia in a violent attack on the Aondona community in Benue State. Yogboh, a graduate of Religious Education from the University of Calabar, had posted a haunting message on Facebook on April 20, 2025, pleading: “Help me look for a better wife to marry before Fulani kill me, making me die as a childless person.”
His death has sparked widespread outrage and sorrow, particularly as his fears expressed in the post tragically became reality. Local sources confirmed that Yogboh was killed during an armed raid by Fulani herdsmen, part of a broader wave of violent attacks that continue to plague agrarian communities across Benue State.
Human rights activist Ukan Kurugh mourned Yogboh’s death, saying, “He once shared his fears… now he’s gone. Not long ago, he voiced his deepest fear the threat of Fulani terrorist herdsmen. Tragically, that fear became his reality. They took him from us. A voice silenced. A life cut short. A family shattered.”
The killing highlights the ongoing killings of herders in middle belt Nigeria, which has resulted in hundreds of deaths and widespread displacement in recent years.
