JAMB 2025 UTME Results: Only 4,756 Candidates Score 320 and Above Out of Nearly 2 Million

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing that only 4,756 candidates out of 1,955,069 scored 320 and above, representing just 0.24 percent of all candidates. Additionally, 7,658 candidates scored between 300 and 319 points, while 334,560 candidates (17.11 percent) scored between 200 and 249 points. More than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 points, with over 50 percent of candidates (983,187) scoring between 166 and 199.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated that the performance statistics are consistent with trends observed over the past 12 years. The examination has a maximum score of 400, and the results indicate a significant number of candidates struggling to meet competitive admission benchmarks.

Among the candidates, 40,247 underage individuals were allowed to sit for the exam to demonstrate exceptional ability, but only 467 (1.16 percent) met the threshold defined for exceptional performance. Their results will be further assessed in subsequent stages.

JAMB also reported that 97 candidates were involved in examination infractions, while 2,157 others are under investigation for suspected malpractice. Furthermore, 71,701 candidates were absent on exam day, and those with biometric issues are being reviewed, with opportunities to retake the exam provided where applicable.

Candidates can check their results by sending an SMS with the text "UTMERESULT" to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number registered during their application. Alternatively, results can be accessed online via the official JAMB portal. Candidates whose results are still being processed or who were absent will receive appropriate notifications, and those under investigation will be informed accordingly.

The data has sparked discussions about the quality of secondary education in Nigeria and the preparedness of students for tertiary education. Education stakeholders are calling for reforms to address systemic challenges highlighted by the examination outcomes.
