The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will release the results of the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,000 candidates on Wednesday.
The makeup exam was conducted between Friday and Monday following widespread technical and human errors during the initial UTME, which severely affected candidates’ performance, particularly in Lagos and the South-East regions. The Board acknowledged these glitches and accepted responsibility for the disruptions.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, had earlier publicly apologized for the mishaps and even broke down in tears while announcing the decision to conduct a resit for the affected candidates.
Out of nearly two million candidates who sat for the original exam, over 1.5 million scored below 200 marks out of a possible 400, raising concerns about the exam’s fairness and credibility.
JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed the resit results release date during a press briefing on Monday. He noted that 379,997 candidates were affected, with 206,610 from 65 centres in Lagos and 173,387 from 92 centres in the South-East.
The registrar described the disruptions as acts of sabotage and said affected candidates were notified via SMS starting last Thursday.
A detailed breakdown of the results from the original exam showed only 4,756 candidates (0.24%) scored 320 and above, while 12,414 candidates (0.63%) scored 300 and above. The majority of candidates scored between 140 and 199 marks, highlighting the impact of the technical issues on overall performance.
Candidates who participated in the resit exam are advised to check their results on Wednesday as JAMB works to restore confidence in the examination process.
