The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of 22 private health training institutions that failed to meet the minimum operational, academic, and professional standards required for healthcare education in the state. The announcement was made by Hon. Umar Mammada, Special Adviser to the Governor for Tertiary Health Institutions, following the findings of a government-appointed visitation panel.
The panel, established on October 25, 2024, was tasked with assessing the compliance of private health training colleges across Katsina. Out of 31 institutions evaluated, only nine were found to meet the necessary standards and were granted approval to continue operations. The remaining 22 institutions were deemed unfit to operate due to serious deficiencies in infrastructure, academic quality, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
Hon. Mammada emphasized that only qualified institutions will be allowed to operate moving forward, and the closed schools will remain shut until they comply with the guidelines set by regulators. The state government has also constituted a White Paper Committee to guide the implementation of the panel’s recommendations, underscoring its commitment to upholding quality in healthcare education.
