Armed police officers have taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Abuja as tensions escalate ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday. The heavy police presence was observed at the Wadata Plaza headquarters, with officers cordoning off Dalaba Street, the main access road to the secretariat.
According to a PDP official who spoke with journalists, the deployment was intended to prevent the proposed NEC Expanded Caucus Meeting from taking place. Initially, some party staff were permitted entry into the premises without incident, but they were subsequently ordered to vacate the building. Journalists covering the unfolding situation were also asked to leave the secretariat grounds.
The police action comes as uncertainty surrounds the planned NEC meeting, with mounting internal tensions within the PDP. The reasons for the police intervention and the fate of the scheduled meeting remain unclear at this time. The situation continues to develop, with further updates expected as more information becomes available.
