The Benue State Government has declared Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a public holiday to mark the official visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state. This one-day holiday aims to give residents the opportunity to warmly receive the President during his condolence visit following the recent violent attacks that have resulted in numerous deaths in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Serumun Deborah Aber, announced the holiday in a statement, clarifying that workers in essential services such as medical personnel, security agencies, and banking institutions are exempted from the directive. Residents across Benue State have been encouraged to come out in large numbers to welcome the President and his delegation, with the visit described as significant and symbolic.
President Tinubu had earlier announced that he would cut short his schedule to visit Benue in response to the escalating security crisis. His visit is intended to commiserate with the government and people of Benue and to assess the situation firsthand. The President is expected to meet with traditional rulers, political, religious, community leaders, and youth groups to seek lasting solutions to the violence.
This public holiday declaration underscores the gravity of the crisis in Benue State and the importance of the President’s visit as a step toward healing and peace in the region.
