Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British national, is the sole confirmed survivor of the tragic Air India Flight AI171 crash near Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in over 200 fatalities.

Ramesh, seated in 11A just behind an emergency exit, reportedly escaped death by jumping out of the aircraft seconds before it impacted the ground. Speaking from his hospital bed, he recounted the harrowing moments: “It all happened so fast. Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise, then the plane crashed. When I regained consciousness, there were bodies all around me. I got scared and ran.”

He sustained impact injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet but is currently receiving medical treatment and is in stable condition. Video footage circulating on social media shows Ramesh limping away from the wreckage, his clothes torn and face bloodied, a vivid testament to his miraculous survival.

Ramesh was traveling with his brother Ajay, who remains missing following the crash. Authorities and family members continue efforts to locate him amid the chaos. Police Commissioner G.S. Malik confirmed Ramesh’s identity and survival but noted that investigations and rescue operations are ongoing.

The crash has shocked India and the international community, with Ramesh’s survival seen as a rare miracle amid one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.
