Emir of Kano Sanusi Raises Alarm: “Nigeria Is Already in Crisis, Living with Bandits and Boko Haram”

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has delivered a stark warning about Nigeria’s security and economic situation, declaring that the country is already in a state of crisis as citizens live side by side with bandits and Boko Haram insurgents.

Speaking at the 60th birthday celebration of former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, Sanusi urged Nigerians to confront the harsh reality facing the nation. “For all those who are saying we have to be careful before we get into a crisis, please wake up. We are living with bandits and Boko Haram; we are already there. We are already in crisis, it has already happened, the question is how do we get out of it,” the Emir stated.

Sanusi, who is also a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), did not mince words as he criticized the nation’s leadership for the widespread, multi-dimensional poverty affecting millions. He emphasized that Nigeria’s elites remain disconnected from the daily struggles of ordinary citizens, failing to grasp the depth of hardship and insecurity that have become the norm in many communities.

His remarks come amid escalating violence and insecurity across the country, with frequent reports of kidnappings, attacks, and displacement linked to armed groups. Sanusi’s candid assessment has resonated with many Nigerians, intensifying calls for urgent action and meaningful reforms to address both security and poverty.

As the nation grapples with these challenges, the Emir’s message is clear: Nigeria’s crisis is not looming it is already here, and it demands immediate, decisive solutions from both leaders and citizens alike.
