Enugu State ready to welcome Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria, as she commenced a landmark two-day working visit, marked by a series of empowerment initiatives, healthcare campaigns, and the commissioning of vital educational infrastructure.
Major streets in Enugu’s capital were adorned with vibrant banners and the First Lady’s portraits, reflecting the city’s excitement. Goodwill messages from Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, wife of the Enugu State Governor, as well as local government chairpersons’ wives, women’s groups, youth associations, and community organizations, echoed across radio stations, welcoming Mrs. Tinubu and highlighting the significance of her visit.
During her stay from June 9th to 10th, Senator Tinubu’s agenda included distributing 10,000 professional kits to healthcare workers, launching the “Free to Shine Triple Elimination Campaign” targeting HIV/AIDS, syphilis, and hepatitis, and providing palliatives to the state’s most vulnerable residents. A major highlight was the commissioning of the state-of-the-art Science, Technical and Vocational School, GTC, Enugu, built by the state government to boost technical education and youth empowerment.
Governor Peter Mbah, in a public message, expressed profound appreciation for the First Lady’s “untiring commitment to championing the health and well-being of Nigerians in general and Ndi Enugu in particular,” underscoring the partnership between the federal and state governments in driving positive change.
In a parallel empowerment effort, Mrs. Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) reached 400 women and young farmers across Enugu’s 17 local councils, distributing agricultural inputs such as wheelbarrows, seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, livestock feed, piglets, chicks, and cassava processors. Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, representing the First Lady, described the programme as a “remarkable boost for agriculture in Enugu,” emphasizing its focus on women and youth as key drivers of food security and economic self-reliance.
Beneficiaries like Enoch Chijioke from Isi-Uzo expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the support would help families and contribute to Enugu’s economic growth. The initiative, praised for its life-changing impact, further cements the collaboration between the RHI and the state government in fostering sustainable development.
Senator Tinubu’s visit has not only energized Enugu but also reinforced her reputation for selfless humanitarian commitment and grassroots empowerment, leaving a lasting mark on the state’s social and economic landscape.
