Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has raised concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s growing disconnect from the realities on the ground, attributing the problem to the president’s close aides who, he claims, are shielding him from the true state of affairs in the country.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ndume lamented the slow pace of development under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and noted that many Nigerians are increasingly frustrated.
Ndume stated, “Things are not going the way they should, and even Mr. President has admitted that. But what we keep hearing is that Nigerians should be patient. My question is how long can people continue to endure?”
He accused some of Tinubu’s advisers of only telling the president what he wants to hear, rather than giving honest assessments of Nigeria’s challenges. Ndume singled out Sunday Dare as the only adviser who consistently speaks the truth to Tinubu, citing their long-standing relationship.
The senator also criticized the influence of unelected individuals who he claims have “hijacked” the administration and are now calling the shots. Despite his criticisms, Ndume clarified that he holds no personal grudge against President Tinubu, stating, “He is my president. But if he does something that’s not right, I will point it out. That’s my responsibility.”
His remarks come as the APC-led government faces mounting pressure to address issues such as inflation, insecurity, and the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
