Afrobeat singer and songwriter Kizz Daniel, born Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, has revealed the deeply personal story behind his latest song, Al-Jannah, which serves as a tribute to his late loved ones. Speaking in a recent podcast interview, the singer shared how the deaths of his father, son, wife’s mother, and stepmother inspired the heartfelt track.
“When my dad was alive, he was my best friend,” Kizz Daniel said, describing the close bond he shared with his father, who passed away on May 9, 2015, just days after the singer’s 21st birthday. The loss profoundly affected him and became a major influence on the song.
Al-Jannah, which means “paradise” in Arabic, was written not only as a tribute to his father but also to honor all the loved ones he and his family have lost over the years. Kizz Daniel recounted the heartbreaking loss of his son in 2021, his wife’s mother in 2024, and his stepmother, emphasizing that the song reflects a collective mourning and remembrance.
“I wanted to make a song for everyone, not just one person. It’s about our loved ones we have lost in this journey of life,” he explained. The use of the word “friend” throughout the song symbolizes the deep relationships he had with those he lost.
The emotional track marks one of Kizz Daniel’s most vulnerable works to date, resonating with fans who have experienced similar grief. The singer’s openness about his personal pain has drawn widespread empathy and praise from listeners and industry insiders alike.
Kizz Daniel, who rose to fame with hits like Woju and Buga, continues to blend his signature Afrobeat sound with heartfelt storytelling, using his music to connect with audiences on a profound level.
