Peter Obi Donates Laptops, Printers, and ₦6 Million to Chibok School, Calls for National Prioritization of Education

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has made a significant contribution to the Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, by donating 10 laptops, 3 printers, and ₦6 million to support the school’s laboratory, computer classroom, and water supply. The school, known internationally as the site of the 2014 Boko Haram kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls many still missing had only one desktop computer and lacked functional laboratories and electricity for its over 2,500 students.

Obi was prompted to act after activist Aisha Yesufu informed him of the dire conditions. While he initially sought to visit the school in person, security concerns prevented the trip. Instead, a meeting was arranged in Abuja with Chibok community leaders, where Obi presented the donations and pledged ongoing support. The ₦6 million was allocated equally toward equipping the lab, installing solar power for the computer classroom, and providing a handheld motorized borehole.

In a statement shared on his official social media account, Obi emphasized that his contribution was not a mere donation but a sincere commitment to the future of the community. He lamented the stark contrast between the neglect of critical sectors like education and the lavish spending by government officials on projects such as the ₦39 billion renovation of the International Conference Centre in Abuja.

Obi criticized the misplacement of national priorities, highlighting ongoing teachers’ strikes and the lack of basic educational resources nationwide. He called on Nigerians to reflect on these issues and urged the government to focus on education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation as foundational pillars for national development.

The Chibok community leaders expressed gratitude and assured that the donated items would be put to good use to improve the educational environment for the students. Obi’s intervention has been widely welcomed as a positive step toward addressing the long-standing neglect of the school and supporting the resilience of a community still healing from past trauma.
