Eight members of a single family, including an eight-months pregnant woman carrying twins, were killed in a devastating road accident along the Kaduna-Zaria highway on the evening of June 9, 2025. The victims were waiting by the roadside to catch a ride home after visiting their grandmother’s house during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities when a speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into them.
Among the deceased was Zainab Muhammad, who was due to give birth soon. Her husband, Sulaiman Abdulkadir Mai Shinkafa, revealed that the unborn twins had been named Hassan and Hussaini. The crash also injured two other family members who are currently hospitalized.
The driver of the ash-coloured Mercedes GLK Jeep fled the scene immediately after the crash. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attributed the accident to over-speeding and loss of control on a rain-soaked, slippery road.
Malam Jamilu Usman Mai Yadi, a grieving father and husband, recounted the heartbreaking loss of eight family members, including his wife, two children, her sisters, and their aunt. The tragedy has deeply affected the community as they mourn the sudden loss of loved ones during a festive period.
The FRSC continues to investigate the incident as efforts to apprehend the fleeing driver intensify.
