Saraki Hails PDP’s 100th NEC Meeting as a Defining Moment of Unity and Resilience

Former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has described the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as a pivotal event that reaffirmed the party’s unity and resilience amid internal challenges. Speaking after the meeting held on Monday, June 30, 2025, Saraki emphasized that the gathering marked a decisive moment for the opposition party, showcasing its commitment to constitutional order and democratic principles.

The meeting, which took place at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, was initially clouded by factional disputes and conflicting statements regarding its legitimacy. However, the faction led by Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, insisted that the 100th NEC meeting would proceed as scheduled, underscoring the binding nature of the decision made at the 99th NEC session in May 2025. This faction received backing from key party organs, including the Board of Trustees and several National Assembly members, who stressed the importance of moving forward with the party’s agenda.

The NEC meeting successfully addressed critical party issues, including the reaffirmation of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and updates from the Zoning Committee and National Convention Organizing Committee. Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, who had initially announced a postponement and proposed an expanded caucus meeting, eventually aligned with the consensus reached by the NEC, reflecting a unified front.

Saraki lauded the party leaders for their ability to navigate internal differences and maintain cohesion, describing the outcome as a testament to PDP’s enduring strength and readiness to confront upcoming electoral challenges. He called on all members to rally behind the party’s leadership and work collectively toward the success of the National Convention scheduled for August 2025.

This 100th NEC meeting, therefore, stands as a significant milestone in PDP’s ongoing efforts to consolidate its position as a formidable opposition force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
