Senator Neda Imasuen Dumps Labour Party for APC, Citing Crisis and Strategic Alignment with Tinubu’s Agenda

Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, has announced his decision to leave the Labour Party (LP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The senator revealed his plans on Sunday in Benin, ahead of a formal defection ceremony scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Imasuen, who was elected under the Labour Party banner, attributed his move to the persistent crisis and internal chaos within the party. He described his defection as a “strategic move” aimed at better aligning Edo South with the federal government’s development priorities under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Reflecting on his two years in the Senate, Imasuen highlighted several achievements, including the establishment of the Federal College of Education through the Abudu Bill and the successful resolution of over 20 public petitions from across the country. He also pointed to his contributions in vocational training, agricultural support programs, rural healthcare initiatives, and scholarships for students in his senatorial district.

“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, we have resolved over 20 public petitions from across the country. These interventions have made a significant difference in the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” Imasuen stated.

He further emphasized the impact of his agricultural initiatives, particularly in rubber, cocoa, and cashew farming, noting improved yields and positive testimonies from local farmers.

Senator Imasuen expressed strong support for President Tinubu’s policies and called for greater cooperation with local governments to drive development. He reaffirmed his commitment to health, youth empowerment, and rural development, assuring constituents that his focus would remain on delivering tangible benefits to Edo South.

His defection marks another high-profile shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, as the APC continues to consolidate its influence amid ongoing challenges within opposition parties.
