Suspected Herdsmen Attack Former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom’s Village, casualties recorded

Two farmers sustained serious injuries following a violent attack by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen in Adeor settlement, Ndzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, which is the hometown of former Governor Samuel Ortom. The victims, Nensha Adeor and Kator Gbenge, were reportedly assaulted with machetes after attempting to prevent the herders’ cattle from grazing on and destroying their farmland.

Medical personnel at the General Hospital in Gbajimba confirmed that both men are in critical condition. The attack has heightened fears among residents, especially as it follows the recent abduction of another farmer in the area, who remains in captivity with no ransom demand yet made.

Local residents have raised urgent alarms, calling on security agencies and the state government to intervene swiftly and reinforce security in Ndzorov and surrounding communities. The incident adds to a growing list of violent attacks attributed to herdsmen in Benue, which continue to destabilize the region and threaten the safety of its inhabitants.

This latest assault comes amid ongoing tensions and repeated violence in Benue State, where communities have been caught in a cycle of attacks, abductions, and destruction linked to armed herdsmen. The situation remains volatile, with calls for stronger government action to protect vulnerable rural communities and restore peace.
