Suspected Herdsmen Attack Tiv Community in Nasarawa: Village Head Killed, Several Abducted

Late Sunday night, suspected herdsmen launched a violent attack on Tse Yange, a Tiv community in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The assailants, riding on motorbikes, descended on the agrarian village, unleashing terror that lasted into the early hours of Monday.

During the brutal raid, the village head was killed, several residents were abducted, and many others sustained injuries. The attack also forced numerous families to flee their homes, leaving the community largely deserted.

Authorities are still assessing the full extent of the abductions and injuries. Local sources described the assault as sudden and ruthless, deepening fears among Tiv communities already grappling with insecurity in the region.

This incident is part of a disturbing pattern of violence involving suspected herdsmen in Nasarawa and neighboring Benue State, where similar raids have caused significant loss of life and displacement.

Community leaders have urgently called on state and federal governments to intervene decisively to end the escalating violence and protect vulnerable rural populations. The ongoing insecurity continues to heighten tensions, disrupt livelihoods, and threaten the safety of residents in affected areas.
