Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly making a concerted effort to sign West Ham United’s Ghanaian forward, Mohammed Kudus, in a move that could break a 14-year unofficial transfer embargo between the two London rivals. Under new manager Thomas Frank, Spurs are looking to bolster their attacking options and have identified the 24-year-old Kudus as a primary target to improve their wide areas.
Kudus, who joined West Ham from Ajax in 2023, is one of the Hammers’ most sellable assets, and the club is reportedly willing to sell him to generate funds for their own squad rebuild under Graham Potter. Despite having an £85 million release clause active for the first 10 days of July, Tottenham is optimistic they can secure Kudus for a lower fee .
Spurs have already made an initial bid of £50 million for Kudus, which West Ham rejected last week, but an improved offer is expected. Kudus himself is reportedly open to discussing a summer move to Tottenham.
The potential transfer marks a significant shift, as the last player to move directly from West Ham to Tottenham was Scott Parker in 2011. This unofficial embargo was notably maintained when Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly blocked Emmanuel Adebayor from joining West Ham in 2015.
While Tottenham has also been linked with other wingers such as Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo, and Eberechi Eze, Kudus is believed to be their most likely signing to enhance Frank’s attacking line. Chelsea had also shown interest in Kudus but are reportedly finalizing other signings.
