A day that was meant for celebration turned into mourning in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State after a fatal car accident claimed the lives of a groom and two of his friends just moments before his wedding ceremony on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
The deceased, SP Mustapha Garba Gumau, a senior police officer, was en route from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau for his wedding fatiha scheduled for 10:00 am when the accident occurred around 9:00 am at Bargan Tsamiya village. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle carrying the groom and his friends veered off the road and crashed, killing Mustapha and his two friends, Shuaibu Umar and Sulaiman Musa, on the spot.
Several other occupants of the vehicle sustained varying degrees of injuries. The sudden loss has plunged the communities of Gumau and Magaman-Gumau into deep mourning, turning what should have been a joyful union into a sorrowful occasion.
Efforts to reach the Bauchi Police Command spokesman, Mohammed Wakil, for official comments were unsuccessful as his line was unreachable at the time of reporting. The incident remains under investigation as the community grapples with the tragedy.
