The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its commitment to modeling international best practices in party organization, administration, and ethics as it deepens its coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Interim National Secretary, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, emphasized that the ADC aims to build a political party rooted in clear ideology, discipline, and service to the people.
In his acceptance speech, Aregbesola lamented the current Nigerian political landscape, describing many parties as lacking ideological depth and driven by power struggles rather than principles. He cited South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC) as a model a party forged in resistance and committed to justice, dignity, equality, and inclusivity.
Aregbesola outlined plans for the ADC to recognize and empower all critical sectors of society, including security personnel, educators, farmers, workers, women, youth, professionals, and people with special needs, allowing them autonomous structures within the party. He stressed the importance of discipline, order, clarity of purpose, and service to Nigerians as defining features of the ADC.
Highlighting the coalition’s grassroots approach, Aregbesola noted that the party will study successful political systems from countries like South Africa, Sweden, Chile, and Kenya, adapting best practices to Nigeria’s unique realities. He underscored that the ADC is not merely a vehicle for personal ambition but a living institution accountable to the people it serves.
The ADC has recently launched nationwide state-level convergences to deepen coalition integration, bringing together political parties, civil society groups, labor unions, and citizens aligned with its vision. National Chairman Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu described the coalition as a shared journey, emphasizing inclusivity, transparency, and a bottom-up communication framework to ensure the party’s message resonates across Nigeria.
Aregbesola concluded that while the task is challenging and demands sacrifice, the ADC is committed to building a party that not only talks about public education, security, and job creation but actively implements policies to address these issues. The coalition aims to stand for Nigeria beyond elections, promoting good governance and national development every day.
