The Arewa Indigenous Obidients Forum, a prominent political group in Northern Nigeria, has declared strong and growing support for Peter Obi’s presidential bid in the 2027 general election. At a recent press conference in Kano, the Forum’s Coordinator, Engineer Alkassim Awwal, expressed confidence that Obi, with divine intervention, will emerge as Nigeria’s next president.
Awwal highlighted that the Forum has developed a clear strategy to mobilize widespread backing for Obi across the Northern region and beyond. He recalled how many initially dismissed Obi’s previous campaign messages as mere political rhetoric, but now recognize the urgency and sincerity of his vision to revive Nigeria’s economy, restore patriotism, and address the country’s deepening crises.
The Forum’s endorsement comes amid widespread hunger, poverty, and insecurity in Nigeria, conditions they say Obi’s leadership can effectively tackle. Awwal lamented that while ordinary Nigerians suffer, those in power continue lavish spending, underscoring the need for change.
Peter Obi, who officially confirmed his 2027 presidential ambition recently, has pledged to serve only one term if elected and to stabilize Nigeria within two years. He remains open to coalition talks focused on addressing core national problems such as security, economic revival, and industrial productivity, but rejects alliances that do not prioritize these issues.
The Arewa Indigenous Obidients Forum’s backing signals a significant shift in Northern political dynamics, traditionally dominated by other parties, and reflects Obi’s increasing appeal beyond his South-East stronghold. This growing Northern support could be pivotal in the highly competitive 2027 presidential race.
