Enugu State is set to make history with the official launch of Enugu Air’s first-ever commercial flight on Monday, July 7, 2025. The state-owned airline, backed by the Enugu State Government and operated in partnership with Nigerian carrier Xejet Aviation, will begin operations with a modern fleet of three Embraer jets two 76-seat E-170s and one 100-seat E-190.
Initial routes will connect Enugu with major Nigerian cities including Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. Plans are underway to expand services to Kano and other key domestic destinations, with ambitions to extend flights across West and Central Africa later in the year.
Operating from its hub at Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu, the airline launch aligns with ongoing upgrades to the airport’s infrastructure, including terminal modernization and improved cargo and airside facilities. This initiative is part of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s broader vision to boost regional connectivity, economic growth, and investment in Enugu State.
While the launch date is confirmed, some observers note that official booking platforms and flight schedules have yet to be fully publicized, raising questions about readiness. Nonetheless, Enugu Air’s debut marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s growing landscape of state-owned airlines aimed at enhancing domestic and regional air travel.
