Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has clarified that his children are Nigerians, not Ghanaians, and therefore have the constitutional right to own land anywhere in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This statement comes amid ongoing allegations and rumors suggesting that Wike allocated large tracts of land to his children, claims he and his aides have repeatedly denied as baseless and politically motivated blackmail.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, the minister dismissed reports that he allocated thousands of hectares of land in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts to his sons. Olayinka explained that the documents cited in these claims actually pertain to unrelated farming companies with no direct connection to Wike’s family.
He emphasized that all Nigerians, including Wike’s children, have the legal right to acquire property provided they meet the necessary legal requirements. The minister’s office described the allegations as a smear campaign orchestrated by political opponents aiming to distract from Wike’s developmental agenda under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope initiative.
Wike’s assertion that his children are Nigerians reinforces their entitlement under Nigerian law to own land and dispels misinformation linking them to Ghanaian citizenship or any foreign nationality that could affect their property rights.
