At least four people have lost their lives following a violent attack by armed bandits in Yar Unguwa community, located in the Rawayau district of Kurfi Local Government Area, Katsina State. The assault, which occurred late on Saturday night, left several residents injured and resulted in the large-scale rustling of cattle and other livestock.
Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the attack in a social media post early Sunday, highlighting the severity of the incident and the ongoing insecurity plaguing the area. According to the report, the bandits stormed the community, causing chaos and significant damage.
In a related incident on the same day, security forces allegedly shot a young man during a peaceful protest in Mairua community within Faskari Local Government Area. The residents had demonstrated against the rising insecurity in their region by blocking the Gusau-Funtua road. This event underscores the tense relationship between communities affected by banditry and security agencies.
As of the time of reporting, Katsina State authorities have not publicly responded to either the deadly attack in Yar Unguwa or the protest shooting in Mairua.
This latest tragedy in Yar Unguwa adds to the growing pattern of violent bandit attacks afflicting Katsina State and parts of Northern Nigeria, causing death, fear, and displacement among vulnerable rural populations.
