Gunmen Attack Meeting Venue in Anambra, Kill 10 and Injure Several Others

On the evening of June 30, 2025, gunmen arrived in two sport utility vehicles and stormed a meeting venue in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, opening fire indiscriminately on the gathering. The attack resulted in the deaths of 10 people, with several others injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment, according to the Anambra State Police Command.

The victims were reportedly indigenes of Ebonyi State attending a meeting when the assailants launched the unprovoked assault. The exact motive remains unclear, but some sources speculate the attack may be linked to enforcement of a sit-at-home order or internal disputes, as the gunmen reportedly demanded minutes of the meeting before opening fire. The police have condemned the attack as indiscriminate and have launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators.

A distressing video circulating on social media shows multiple corpses lying on the ground with bystanders wailing, underscoring the brutality of the incident. The police have taken over the scene and are working with intelligence sources to identify those responsible.

This latest attack adds to a troubling pattern of violence in Anambra State, where armed groups have targeted communities and security personnel in recent months, further destabilizing the region. The Anambra Police Commissioner has vowed to deploy additional operatives and bring the culprits to justice, appealing to the public for information to aid the investigation.

Residents remain shaken by the violence, which has disrupted peace and heightened fears amid ongoing security challenges in the state.
