The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a security advisory, banning a planned political rally by supporters of former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi that was scheduled to be held in honour of his birthday. In an official statement released on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, authorities emphasized that while individuals are free to associate and celebrate their political leaders, all political rallies and gatherings of a similar nature remain suspended throughout Kaduna State.
According to the advisory, the suspension on political gatherings will persist until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declares the commencement of political activities. Intelligence reports, the police noted, indicate that criminal elements may attempt to infiltrate such public gatherings, potentially hijacking the event to incite violence and threaten the peace of the state.
The police further highlighted that the date of the planned rally coincided with party primaries for forthcoming bye-elections in the state, for which participating parties have already notified law enforcement of their events. Overlapping locations and political activities risk inflaming tensions, increasing the likelihood of clashes or a breakdown of public order.
The Command sternly warned that any attempt to defy the suspension of political rallies would be met with firm law enforcement action, including arrests of violators. Residents and political supporters were urged to adhere strictly to the advisory to ensure the peace and stability of Kaduna State.
