Muazu Babangida Aliyu: If Nigerians Tolerated Buhari for 8 Years, They Can Try Tinubu Till 2031

Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, stated on July 31, 2025, that if Nigerians were able to tolerate the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari for eight years, they can similarly extend patience to President Bola Tinubu until 2031. Aliyu made this comment during an interview with Arise Television, reflecting on Nigeria’s political history and emphasizing the need for patience with the current leadership.

He challenged opposition groups, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to present viable alternatives capable of displacing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu. Regarding Nigeria’s informal power rotation system, Aliyu noted the sensitivity surrounding the distribution of political power and cautioned that internal defections within parties could destabilize the political landscape.

He also remarked metaphorically on leadership behavior, stating, “You cannot be bad and expect to have your child as an angel. Your child looks at you and the way you behave,” highlighting how leadership sets an example for others.

This view aligns with broader calls from some political figures urging northern politicians to postpone presidential ambitions until 2031, allowing President Tinubu to complete two terms in office, referencing past tolerance of Buhari’s tenure.
