Nigerian Nurses to Commence 7-Day Warning Strike Over Unmet Demands

DAILY MENTOR, July 28, 2025 - The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has announced a seven-day warning strike starting midnight Tuesday, July 29, 2025, due to unmet demands by the Federal Government. The strike follows the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

A circular signed by NANNM’s 2nd National Vice President, Orolu Sesan, and Deputy General Secretary, Elder Otaru Daniel Shaibu, directed all state council leaders to mobilize members for the industrial action if the government fails to address the association’s concerns.

Among the key demands are a review of allowances and improved welfare for health workers. The strike will involve a total withdrawal of services in federal health institutions across Nigeria.

NANNM leaders have urged patience and understanding from the public while emphasizing the urgency of addressing the health workers’ grievances to prevent further disruption of essential healthcare services.

This development highlights growing tensions between Nigerian nurses and the government concerning workers' welfare and health sector funding.
