The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has intensified efforts to boost academic publishing across Nigerian universities by inspecting the Academic Publishing Centre (APC) at Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola. A Technical Advisory Group from TETFund, including Professors Babagana Mohammed and Danjuma Gambo, conducted the evaluation to assess the viability and capacity of the APC as part of a broader plan to reactivate and support such centres nationwide.
The inspection follows similar assessments carried out in other universities and aims to inform TETFund’s strategic decisions on strengthening academic publishing infrastructure and output in tertiary institutions. The initiative is designed to address the chronic scarcity and quality issues of locally produced academic books and journals, which have long hindered research and learning in Nigerian higher education.
MAU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Aliyu Mustafa, and other senior officials welcomed the TETFund team, commending the Fund’s commitment to revitalizing academic publishing. The inspection aligns with TETFund’s Higher Education Book Development Project, which supports the publication of indigenous academic materials and the conversion of high-quality theses into books.
This initiative is part of TETFund’s broader vision to enhance research, knowledge production, and global competitiveness of Nigerian universities by ensuring the availability of quality academic resources tailored to local contexts and needs.
