Super Falcons forward Omorinsola Babajide is determined to make a significant impact at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as Nigeria aims to reclaim the continental crown they lost three years ago to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana. The tournament kicks off this weekend in Morocco, where the Super Falcons will face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria in Group B.
Babajide, a former UD Tenerife striker, is among 11 players making their debut at this prestigious competition. She expressed her excitement and ambition ahead of the tournament, stating her personal goal is to contribute goals, assists, and overall performances to help the team win. “I really wanna win my first senior silverware,” Babajide told the Super Falcons media.
The Super Falcons, nine-time African champions, will begin their campaign against Tunisia in Casablanca on Sunday, July 6. They have been preparing rigorously, including a 3-1 warm-up victory over Ghana, showcasing their readiness to pursue a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
Babajide’s inclusion and determination reflect the team’s blend of experienced and fresh talent, all united in the quest to restore Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football. With a strong squad and a focused mindset under coach Justine Madugu, the Super Falcons are poised to challenge the best teams on the continent and bring home the coveted trophy.
