The Imo State wing of the Obedient Movement has officially launched a statewide campaign to encourage massive participation in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections. The movement aims to make a significant impact by mobilizing citizens to register and actively participate in the electoral process.
Speaking at the NUJ Press Centre in Owerri, the State Coordinator, Vigilius Chukwuka Anukanti, emphasized the importance of voter registration as a powerful tool for change. “The Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) is not just a piece of plastic but a power to influence positive outcomes,” he stated, urging all committed members to register on Obedients.Com and form voting blocs of at least 100 individuals in every polling unit.
The movement plans to engage a wide range of stakeholders including market associations, religious centers, youth groups, and unions, and will conduct door-to-door campaigns using flyers and community influencers to spread awareness. They also intend to provide transportation assistance to help people reach INEC registration points.
Highlighting the group’s mission, Anukanti mentioned plans to recruit 1,500 value-based leaders nationwide to run for office under the Obedient platform, advocating for a transparent, fair, and peaceful transition of power. The movement's campaign motto, “GO MERD” (Get Organized, Make Election Rigging Difficult), embodies its commitment to empowering voters and safeguarding the electoral process.
Aligned with the vision of presidential hopeful Peter Obi, the Obedient Movement continues its affiliation with the Labour Party as it monitors the evolving political coalition landscape.
