2027: Ex-Presidential Aspirant Urges Goodluck Jonathan to Run Amid Nigeria’s Growing Hardship

A former presidential aspirant of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Mathias Baba Tsado, has called on ex-president Goodluck Jonathan to contest for the Nigerian presidency in the 2027 general elections, citing the country’s escalating challenges and the urgent need for experienced leadership.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Tsado emphasized the pressing hardship Nigerians are facing, urging Jonathan to come out of retirement and serve the nation once again.

“He’s not someone desperate to be in government. You remember when he said his ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian," Tsado said, referencing Jonathan’s dignified exit after the 2015 election.
“Jonathan lost the election, but gained people. Today, Nigerians need him. Nothing is working,” he stressed.

Tsado’s appeal comes amid increased speculation and political activity supporting Jonathan’s possible return to the presidency. Campaign posters and advocacy groups, including the Team New Nigeria movement, have surfaced in key regions such as Kano, signaling grassroots backing for the former president.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president between 2010 and 2015, a period marked by relative political calm and a focus on national unity. Despite his loss in the 2015 poll, his political reputation remains strong among many Nigerians disillusioned by the country’s current economic and security crises.

Political analysts suggest that if Jonathan decides to run in 2027, it would be a non-consecutive bid with a reasonable chance, especially as the presidency is expected to rotate to the Southern region once again.

While Jonathan has yet to officially declare his candidacy, his supporters are hoping that he will heed the call. They believe his experience, leadership qualities, and past dedication to peace make him one of the best candidates to lead Nigeria out of its present difficulties.

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, the question remains: Will Goodluck Jonathan return to the political frontline to answer the nation’s calls and rescue the country from its crisis?
