Social media activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has accused Dangote Group of abandoning a 22-year-old female victim hospitalized at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Auchi, Edo State. The young woman was seriously injured when she was crushed by a truck driven by a Dangote Group driver.
VeryDarkMan shared a video from the hospital showing the victim, who has reportedly been hospitalized for 11 months with medical bills exceeding N5 million. He joined protests against the movement of Dangote trucks in Auchi and demanded that the company take responsibility for all victims of its truck drivers' negligence.
The incident reignited public outrage following a similar case involving Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna Otabor, who had a leg amputated after being hit by a Dangote truck in the same area. Dangote Group previously pledged to cover Ruth Otabor's medical expenses.
This wave of accidents comes as Dangote Refinery plans to deploy 4,000 new compressed natural gas trucks for fuel distribution nationwide, a scheme delayed due to truck numbering issues. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) cited this as a reason for the delay.
Dangote Group has yet to publicly respond to the recent allegations of negligence and abandonment.
