Chief Peter Ameh, a former presidential candidate and ex-Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is currently leading and dominating discussions about the 2027 Nigerian presidential election. Ameh emphasized that the North is willing to listen to Obi’s presidential bid, reflecting Obi’s strong public presence and leading position among potential candidates.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 7, 2025, Ameh noted that Peter Obi tops various lists and surveys as the foremost candidate for the 2027 presidency. He argued that the focus should move beyond regional divisions like North and South and focus instead on the qualities of compassion, character, and discipline traits he associates with Obi.
Ameh highlighted the inefficiencies in public resource management in Nigeria and suggested that Obi’s leadership could bring improved governance aligned with the priorities of the masses.
This statement aligns with other reports indicating Obi’s declared ambition to contest in the 2027 election, his promise to serve only one term if elected, and his focus on security, economy, and anti-corruption measures as priorities.
