Phyna Accuses Dangote Group of Breaking Promise to Fund Sister’s Medical Treatment Abroad

Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has publicly accused Dangote Group of reneging on their promise to finance her younger sister Ruth’s medical treatment overseas. Ruth suffered a tragic accident on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, when she was hit by a Dangote truck reportedly driven by an underage, unlicensed driver.

The accident, which occurred just six days after Ruth’s graduation, resulted in the amputation of her left leg, with her right leg also at risk. Phyna revealed that after visiting her sister, she found her condition worse than initially shared publicly.

Though Dangote Group initially agreed to fly Ruth to India for advanced medical care, the reality star says the company later backtracked. After Ruth was transferred to Lagoon Hospital in Lagos and Phyna submitted a detailed medical report, Dangote officials reportedly delayed further, seeking additional medical opinions and later requesting a confirmation from Lagoon Hospital that the facility could not handle Ruth’s case.

Phyna expressed frustration over the lack of communication and called on Dangote Group owner Aliko Dangote to personally intervene to save her sister’s life, saying, “My sister’s life must not be put at risk. She needs urgent care beyond what local hospitals can provide.”

The ongoing public exchange sheds light on concerns about corporate responsibility, the need for urgent medical assistance, and holds Dangote Group accountable amid mounting public sympathy and calls for swift action.
