Bola Tinubu left Abuja on August 15, 2025, embarking on a two-nation official trip to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The visit follows an invitation from Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
In Japan, President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) taking place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22. The conference theme, “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” focuses on Africa’s economic transformation, sustainable development, and improving business environments via private investment and innovation. During this engagement, Tinubu will participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks with world leaders, and meet Japanese business executives involved or interested in investing in Nigeria.
Following the TICAD conference, Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, Brazil, for a state visit scheduled for August 24 to 25. There, he will hold bilateral discussions with President Lula, attend a Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum, and witness the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding designed to enhance economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
President Tinubu travels with a delegation of key ministers and senior government officials, aiming to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explore new opportunities for trade and investment with both Japan and Brazil.
