President Bola Tinubu officially launched a personal income tax calculator on Thursday to assist Nigerians in estimating their tax liabilities under new tax reforms set to take effect in January 2026. The tool aims to simplify tax compliance, enhance fairness, and shield low-income earners from undue tax burdens.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tinubu explained that the calculator was designed to provide transparency by allowing individuals to compare their current tax payments with their estimated obligations under the new laws. He emphasized that these reforms mark a shift toward equity and true redistribution in Nigeria’s economy.
“With the new tax laws I recently signed, taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy,” the president wrote.
The tax calculator is available at fiscalreforms.ng, where Nigerians can input their income details and receive instant calculations illustrating the impact of the reformed tax system.
President Tinubu encouraged citizens to utilize the tool to better understand their obligations and expressed confidence in the country’s future prospects, urging Nigerians to believe in a renewed path toward inclusive economic growth.
Earlier this year, Tinubu signed four significant tax reform bills: the Nigeria Tax (Fair Taxation) Law, the Nigeria Tax Administration Law, the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Law, and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Law. These legislations are aimed at restoring fairness in tax collection, closing loopholes, and simplifying administration.
