The federal government of Nigeria is intensifying efforts to make Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) a key driver of national development, with the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) leading a comprehensive review and validation of syllabuses for 26 trade areas.
NABTEB Registrar and CEO Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed described the exercise, which runs until September 12, 2025, as a landmark reform impacting technical colleges nationwide. The trades under review include both emerging technologies and traditional vocations such as Robotics, Coding, Machine Learning, Industrial Mechanics, Smart Agriculture, Cinematography, Automotive Mechatronics, Solar PV Installations, Hospitality, and Beauty Therapy, among others.
This curriculum update aligns with Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda and aims to equip technical graduates with skills for global competitiveness and domestic needs. Dr. Mohammed underscored the importance of integrating sustainability, citing environmentally conscious trades like Solar PV Installations and Smart Agriculture.
The review process involves collaboration among education regulators, industry stakeholders, technical college principals, and curriculum experts, ensuring syllabuses are academically sound and market-relevant.
Dr. Mohammed emphasized NABTEB’s commitment to quality assurance, educator training, robust assessment tools, and called on industry partners to support internships, workplace learning, and mentorship programs to guarantee successful implementation.
The reform marks a significant stride in Nigeria’s efforts to elevate technical education as a cornerstone for economic growth and technological independence.
