Mr. Leader Sampson, Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has asserted that the nearly two-year political crisis in Rivers State may continue and worsen despite the reconciliation between suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
Sampson contends that the crisis was politically orchestrated by individuals for personal gains, claiming there has always been peace in Rivers apart from those engineered disruptions.
He criticized the Sole Administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, calling for full accountability on how public funds were spent during his six-month emergency rule.
Regarding the Local Government elections recently held in Rivers, Sampson declared them illegal since the constitution does not permit elections under sole administration and revealed that ADC is challenging the electoral process in court with hopes for nullification.
Sampson expressed skepticism about the so-called truce between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, warning that one man's dominance in governance is likely to fuel further crises.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the ADC is preparing to take over governance in Rivers State, aiming to rescue the population from what Sampson called "tyrants."
He further positioned ADC as the main opposition party nationally, citing defections from PDP and highlighting the party's growth and presence in Rivers, reinforced by prominent political figures like former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Prince Uche Secondus, and former Deputy Speaker Austin Okpara.
