The Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (JSPHDA) has announced that it will commence a comprehensive Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign across all 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) starting October 6, 2025. The campaign is set to run for 10 days and aims to immunize children between nine months and 14 years old.
This initiative comes as part of Jigawa’s efforts to combat frequent measles and rubella outbreaks that pose significant health risks to children. In preparation, the agency conducted a two-day training for healthcare and immunization officers, including Cold Chain Officers, Disease Surveillance Officers, and Health Promotion Officers, to ensure effective implementation of the campaign.
JSPHDA emphasized the importance of community involvement and urged parents and caregivers to bring eligible children to designated vaccination posts. Alongside vaccinations, the campaign will leverage geographical information systems (GIS) for efficient data management and include strategies for security-compromised areas.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr. Shehu Sambo, reaffirmed Jigawa’s commitment to eliminating measles and rubella, calling on all stakeholders and development partners to support the vaccination drive. The campaign receives backing from national agencies like the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), WHO, UNICEF, and other international partners.
This campaign marks a vital step towards improved child health outcomes in Jigawa State and reflects a broader national commitment to immunization and disease control.
