Two police officers were killed on Sunday, September 21, 2025, in an ambush by unidentified gunmen in Ilafin community, Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The attack occurred at a police checkpoint where the officers were on duty. The assailants stormed the checkpoint and engaged the policemen in a fierce exchange of gunfire, resulting in the deaths of the two officers.
Joshua Dare, Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Council, condemned the assault, calling it a direct attack on the security architecture of the area and an attempt to instill fear among the residents.
This incident closely follows another deadly attack a few days prior, where unknown gunmen killed three police officers at a checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area.
Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, confirmed both attacks and stated that the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has deployed tactical teams to hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The police have reassured residents of intensified efforts to contain such violent incidents and restore peace in the region.
