Vice President Kashim Shettima will head Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), scheduled to take place in New York, USA, from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
This was announced by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Vice President's office, Stanley Nkwocha, stating that the decision follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, during the General Debate, which opens under the theme: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”
The delegation will include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, along with other senior officials and ministers.
Besides the General Debate, Vice President Shettima will participate in several high-level side events, including a special climate event hosted by the UN Secretary-General, a roundtable on energy and minerals opportunities in the Gulf of Guinea, and the Forward Africa Leaders Symposium focusing on digital transformation and trade.
Following the UNGA, the Vice President will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for meetings with Deutsche Bank officials before returning to Nigeria.
This delegation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to multilateral cooperation, addressing global challenges such as climate change, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
