Werder Bremen in Talks to Sign Victor Boniface on Loan from Bayer Leverkusen

Werder Bremen is currently in discussions to secure Nigerian striker Victor Boniface on a loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga club has opened contact with Leverkusen as they seek to bolster their attacking options after a disappointing start to the 2025-26 season, with no wins in their first three games across all competitions.

Boniface, 24, was close to joining AC Milan earlier this summer, but the Italian club withdrew from the deal due to concerns about his fitness following medical examinations. He recently returned to training with Leverkusen but was omitted from their matchday squad for a recent 3-3 draw against Bremen.

Werder Bremen’s interest in Boniface reflects their urgent need for more firepower upfront, with only Marco Grüll and Justin Njinmah currently available as centre forwards. The loan move, if completed, could offer Boniface a chance to regain form and playing time, which may also improve his prospects of rejoining Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Negotiations continue as the transfer window deadline approaches, with both clubs aiming to finalize the terms soon.
